Either way, I hadn't been under the impression that Netflix was only focused on things that were already massively popular anime-wise, pretty much on them if that's what they want to prioritize as opposed to properties that would actually be practical and considerably less expensive. Of course, I'm not particularly fond of Death Note, so its adaptation going poorly means very little to me beyond establishing a track record even for something that was much shorter and wasn't an epic.
It's about as "grounded" as something with its concept could get, let alone anything else that also ran in Shonen Jump, yet Netflix found a way to screw that series up anyway. Death Note was pretty popular back in its heyday, more than OP has managed to be in the US specifically from what I recall anyway (I have no complaints with being corrected, but fairly certain that getting it to catch on here has been a problem).
